Hi to NKC and Oak Park '66-ers!  How did 50 years pass so quickly?  Looking back, I am thankful to God for his guidance and provision.  My school journey took me from Davidson, to Oakwood Manor, Antioch Jr, NKC, and finally Oak Park - pretty neat to be the first class!  Then, I earned a degree in music from KU, where I met my husband of (now) 45 years, Bob.  We headed to Illinois to work on master's degrees, me in piano performance and Bob in social work.  It was a fun time (before kids), and I loved teaching university, community college, and summer music camps.    As our family grew to three daughters, we returned to Kansas City, then moved to San Diego, then Boston - and finally Wichita, KS - where the girls spent elementary and high school years, Bob ran a children's agency, and I ran an independent piano studio.   I love to teach - somewhere in here I returned to Wichita State to get my teacher certification.  My goal:  be in the class room before I was 50!!  Crazy!  I have spent the last 15 years teaching middle school Language Arts to 6th and 7th graders in Wichita, and in Houston, where we have lived for almost 15 years now.   (Yes, we say "y'all"!)  We are blessed to have 7 grandkids - ages 2-8 - and, of course, they are the best!  Bob just retired - and we are looking forward  to how the Lord will use us in this new season - to serve and share His love.   Coming up for us soon - a trip to an orphanage in Haiti, Coreluv Children's Village.

I look forward to reconnecting with you all!

Wow!  Just spent time reading about all the successes and life stories from the famed halls of NKC and OPHS!  Quite impressive.  So many names and faces that shaped my character and personality in some way!  We were/are a great group!
My lazy/fun/learning days at Davidson, Chapel Hill, NorthGate, NKC and OPHS were followed by college: SMS.  Married Jim Bird (OPHS '66) after graduating in 70, so life has never been boring!!  I followed him to Dallas, then California (Navy), Florida, and back to Southern California, where we have remained these many years, enjoying the mountains, deserts, and beaches!  I have put my teaching credential to good use: first in NKC at Linden East; then in Oxnard, CA; Springfield, MO;  I took a long break as we started our family, then returned to the classroom.  I claim to have retired now, but still put in many days subbing for my friends and totally enjoy the kids and teaching without the work and stress of full time!  Our lives are pretty centered around our four children and seven grandchildren (ages 2-9).  They keep us busy, laughing, and healthy!  We like to hike, travel, cook, and visit with friends and family. Nothing too unusual or exciting, but there's always fun to be had!  "I'll see you in September..."

Retired Married
After graduation from Oak Park I enlisted in the U.S. Air Force.  I served for six years and am a Vietnam vet (1968 - 1971)mostly  in the A Shau Valley with the Mobile E.O.D. Team.
I married my wife Mary Beth  in 1978 and we have been happily arguing for 38 years.
After the Air Force I received my BS in Geology from UMKC and continued graduate work at MU.  Starvation forced me to seek employment and I started with the Defense Dept. in 1980.
I served in the Defense Dept. for 9 years then went to work at the Justice Dept. for the next 20 years and finished up at the Dept. of Homeland Security as National Security Officer.  I retired in 2008.
Mary Beth and I have no children but we have some interesting cats.
I would like to hear from any classmates and especially Lance Romig.

Ann Wright (Ousley)
Retired teacher/Donor Record Supervisor Divorced 2
Upon graduation from NKC High School I attended Truman State Universary in Kirksville, MO where I graduated with my BSE and MA degrees. After teaching for 30 years, I retired in 2005.  When my last child graduated from college and joined the workforce, I returned to KC. After unsuccessfully attempting to be “retired”, I took on my second career at City Union Mission where I am currently the Donor Record Supervisor. I enjoy the outdoors—especially my new love—kayaking. Send Ann a MessageSend Ann a Message
